This means a satin skirt made from polyester, viscose, or silk will behave differently depending on the fiber. Heavier satin fabrics hold their shape, do not stretch across the hips, and are less likely to reveal underwear lines. Sateen skirts have a softer, more muted, powdery sheen and drape more gently, while silk skirts are the most fluid and feel the coolest to wear.

A practical guideline: if you want a clean silhouette without the fabric clinging to the body, choose a heavier satin; if fluid folds and a flowing bias-cut line matter more, choose sateen or silk. Length, rise, and cut

• Maxi and floor-length styles create an evening look without elaborate embellishment. The slit matters here: a side slit allows greater freedom of movement, while a front slit visually lightens the length.

The key rule is contrast in texture. The smooth sheen should be balanced with a matte top; otherwise, the outfit can look too evening-oriented.

Satin intensifies color: the same shade appears deeper on satin than on knitwear. Basic black, milky white, and beige work year-round, while emerald, cherry, and champagne are seasonal accents. Wash on a delicate cycle at up to 30 °C, without spinning or soaking; iron from the reverse through a cloth at the lowest temperature.
